FINANCE ELDER

Finance and Administration Elder - Petra Dunn

  • Oversee all general operations of the church both in the areas of finance and administration.
  • Weekly reviews the books via the trial balance sheet
  • Approving the expenditures of all monies.
  • Preparing an annual budget and financial statement for dissemination to the congregation.
  • Counting the donations after each service and seeing that they are properly recorded and deposited in the correct bank accounts
  • Oversee the filing of all legally required reports and documents, as well as, all reports and documents required by the Cumberland Presbyterian General Assembly, Synod and/or Presbytery of East Tennessee.
  • Recruit individuals to volunteer in finance and administrative activities when needed.
  • Prepare a written report outlining activities and recommendations in the ministry area and submit it to the office one week before regularly scheduled Session meetings, on the first Wednesday of each month, and inform the administration of any items to be placed on agenda for discussion at Session.
  • Cooperate with other elders and the administrator in modeling Christian discipleship and service in all areas of the church responsibility (e.g. work days, service attendance, special event attendance, etc.)
 
 

  MEMBERSHIP/OUTREACH ELDER

Membership Elder - David Rexrode

  • Visit sick and shut in members.
  • Maintain list of attendance at regular church service.
  • Send cards to visitor and others, as need arises.
  •  Recruit membership team of volunteers to assist in visits and telephone calls to members and those that attend regularly.
  • Have new members fill out membership sheet and sent to church office.
  • Cards are sent by Monday morning Bible Study Group.
  • Attend Women's Ministry meeting and report to Session any decision/projects, etc., that require approval or discussion.
  • Assist with set up and serving communion.

Outreach Elder

  • Oversee all activities at Union that engage or impact people who do not regularly attend UCPC.
  •  Truck Stop Ministry.
  • Public Relations.
  •  Missions and benevolence.
  • Establish a team of volunteers to contact all visitors to UCPC on a prompt and regular basis.  These people will also engage in regular weekly visitation to surrounding houses, new arrivals to the communities and other prospects.

 

 
 

  MAINTENANCE ELDER

Maintenance Elder - Mark Smith

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair for all the property of UCPC with the goal of keeping all the Lord's property in a state of beauty and good operating condition that will bring glory and honor to God and to UCPC as a place to worship.
  • Establish regular work days.
  •  Conduct regular inspection of the property and respond to any reports of damage or neglected areas or items of personal property.
  • Cooperate with Fellowship Elder in coordinating the setting up, taking down and arranging of tables and chair, etc.,  for dinners and special church functions.
  •  Recruit volunteers to serve in various maintenance activities.
 
 

  WORSHIP ELDER

Worship Elder - Blake Case

  • In cooperation with the Minister-In-Charge, coordinate all activities to be conducted in sanctuary area and conditions that relate to the actual worship services at Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church (UCPC).
  • Planning non-sermon activities to ensure minister's message starts at 11:30am.
  • Ushers - Bob Black
  • Music - Frank Galbraith
  • Greeters - Gayle Bowman
  • Oversee that all exits to the Sanctuary end of the church building are locked after each use, lights and electrical equipment are turned off.
  • Assist minister in scheduling, planning and executing all Communion Services and special events held in the Sanctuary.
  • Oversee the tape and sound ministry.  Make sure they have all needed supplies.
  • Make DVD's for shut-ins and others;  Louise Simmons mails these out.
  • Assists the Minister-In-Charge in teaching and encouraging the congregation to behave in a respectful and holy manner anytime they are in the Sanctuary.
  • Assists in counting offering.

  YOUTH ELDER

Youth Elder - Dave Roberts

  • Oversees all activities at UCPC which involve young people under the age of 18 years.
  • In cooperation with participating parents and a youth council and complying with all UCPC regulations established for youth activities, oversee the planning and implementation of all youth activities, with the goal of involving all of the UCPC in the active dedication to Jesus Christ and to growth and service in His name.
  • Ensure the successful implementation and continuance of youth worship classes and activities, as well as, social and service activities.
  • Recruit individuals to volunteer in youth activities and ministries
 
 

  PRAYER ELDER

Prayer Elder - Hugh Turpin

  • Meets with other Elders and prays for Leonard (Pastor) and for church service on Sunday morning @ 9:30am
  • Takes prayer request and prays over them
  • Welcome and opens worship service with special messages and announcements
  • Assists other Elders - oversees some special maintenance projects
 
 

  CHRISTIAN EDUCATION ELDER

Christian Education Elder - Vivian Rhodes

  • Oversees all activities which involve Christian education and continuing spiritual growth and education which occur among the congregation of UCPC.
  • Overseeing the Sunday School - ensuring that each class has a qualified, competent teacher and designated substitute, as well as, necessary classroom materials and supplies.
  • Oversee any group or classes designed to promote the spiritual growth of UCPC and its individual members (e.g. Bible studies, spiritual growth classes, prayer groups, library use, etc.)
  • Recruit individual to volunteer in Christian education programs with a view to enlisting as many of the congregation as possible to become involved in church activities.
 
 

  FELLOWSHIP ELDER

Fellowship Elder - Tommy Campbell

  • Oversee all group activities which involve social interactions among the congregation as a whole, or group of individuals within the congregation.
  • Coordinating all dinners, picnic, cookouts and special events.
  • In cooperation with the Maintenance Elder, coordinating set-up, clean up and take down of all property and property areas used in the events above.
  • Initiate and encourage Christian and brotherly interaction among the congregation.
  • Supervising the production and dispensation of the church directory and keeping the same current with updates from time to time.
  • Developing and updating on introductory packet of information on UCPC, its place in the CP denomination, our system of government, spiritual growth opportunities, personnel, woman's ministry, Sunday school and other church related information.
  • Function as a cordial, receptive, greeting ambassador to all people who worship at UCPC.
  • Oversee the food ministry by selecting an supervising a food director to coordinate volunteers to prepare and deliver food to the homes of members who have a need for assistance with meals because of illness, injury, disability or death.
  • Oversee the Women's Ministry program, attend meetings, assist each Women's Ministry officers in planning events, securing Session approval for events and implementing the projects and goals of WM under the authority of the WM Session.
  • Recruit volunteers to serve in the various fellowship programs.
